Members of the LGBTQ+ community often face unique challenges throughout their lives, which can have a direct impact on their struggles with a mental health concern and a co-occurring substance use disorder. At Rio Vista Behavioral Health, we designed the PRISM Program to provide LGBTQ+-affirming services for people who seek behavioral health treatment at our facility.
PRISM Program Overview
Many LGBTQ+ individuals experience the world differently than their straight, cisgender counterparts do, so it is essential that their behavioral health treatment reflects those differences.
At Rio Vista Behavioral Health, we have created a safe space where LGBTQ+ people can discover a path to healing that honors their unique experiences and identities.
We designed the PRISM (People Respecting Individuality and Sexuality in Mental Health) Program at our facility in El Paso, Texas, for members of the LGBTQ+ community who are struggling with mental health disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorders.
This program also supports LGBTQ+ individuals who have a substance use disorder in addition to a mental health concern, or co-occurring disorders. We help people find recovery from addictions to many different substances, including alcohol, heroin, and cocaine.
The care we provide is delivered by a multidisciplinary team of professionals. Board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), and registered nurses (RNs) are on hand to provide medical evaluations and basic medical care, while licensed professional counselors, recreational therapists, and behavioral health technicians deliver the therapeutic aspect of our programming.
Our Approach
At Rio Vista Behavioral Health, we tailor the care we provide through the PRISM Program in a way that honors the unique experiences and perspectives of the LGBTQ+ community.
The care team behind the PRISM Program welcomes and affirms everyone’s identity, creating an environment where you can feel safe to begin the healing process.
We also recognize the specific societal challenges LGBTQ+ individuals may face and address how these factors may have influenced your struggles with a behavioral health concern.
The expert team at our El Paso, Texas, facility accomplishes this by taking the time to understand how your experiences with a behavioral health concern have affected your life.
After completing a thorough assessment of your history, needs, and goals, we custom-build a care plan that is comprised of an array of evidence-based therapies and services. These may include:
- Group therapy
- Individual therapy
- Family therapy
- Detoxification
- Medication management
Everyone heals differently, so we may use various types of therapy depending on your specific strengths and needs, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, art therapy, and recreational therapy.
